Application of High Pressure Gas Cylinders

Cylinder gas is a gas that is filled under very high pressure. The gas is filled into a cylinder, which is either a pressure vessel or a tank that can hold the gas without any leakage and without any wear and tear. Cylinder gas has found various applications in the industry as well as for domestic purposes.

High Pressure Gas Cylinders: Applications

Let us start with applications for domestic purposes. Cylinder gas is used very extensively in homes. Typically, LPG or liquefied petroleum gas, propane or butane is pumped into a cylinder. These gases help in burning the stove or other appliances on which cooking, boiling and other activities are carried out.

Next, High Pressure Gas Cylinders is used on a much broader scale in the medical industry. Oxygen is injected into the cylinder, which is then supplied to patients in need of oxygen in hospitals. Sometimes, gases other than oxygen are also transported into cylinders and kept in laboratories of medical institutions where medical students conduct their experiments with gases.

In addition to the medical industry, cylinder gases are very popular in the aircraft and aviation industries. Cylinder gas, mainly in the form of oxygen, is provided to pilots of rockets and other human satellites that are launched by space institutions such as NASA, ISRO and others. Small sized cylinders filled with oxygen are also provided to divers who dive to great depths in the ocean and ocean for research purposes. Cylinder gas is also used for cutting and welding purposes.

These days, cylinder gas has found many applications in the transportation industry. Both public and private transport vehicles have started consuming High Pressure Gas Cylinders on a very large scale. It has been found that if you drive your vehicle on cylinder gas (whether LPG, CNG or any other) instead of using conventional fuels like petrol and diesel, you can save a lot of money and reduce air and noise pollution can do.

This has prompted everyone to consume these gases instead of conventional fuels. In addition, the engine life of the vehicle is also extended. Despite so many advantages, there is a disadvantage associated with this mode of transport. If you are planning to go on a long drive and you are driving your vehicle on cylinder gas, you will probably have to keep a spare cylinder in your car, as your car may run out of fuel anywhere. And unlike petrol and diesel, re-fuelling stations of cylinder gases are not readily available.

Apart from all the above applications, High Pressure Gas Cylinders are also used as fire extinguishers. Fire extinguishers are very easily available in work sizes and can be placed anywhere inside the premises, be it home, hospital, or office, or any other place. If there is a fire of any kind, you have to push the knob on the top of the cylinder and the gases that extinguish the fire will come out of the cylinder.
